Description
Avana is hiring a Carpenter to support residential construction projects across our communities. This hands-on role is responsible for a variety of carpentry and construction tasks, helping ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard of quality. We are looking for a skilled and dependable individual with at least three (3) years of construction experience and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, as well as part of a team.
On a project basis, this role will report to the Construction Lead and Site Superintendent. Organizationally, the Carpenter reports to the Operations Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
- Complete back framing and installation of construction locks.
- Construct and place temporary sidewalks.
- Construct and install temporary handrails and stairs as required.
- Resolve construction deficiencies at various stages of the builds.
- Clean job sites of all construction material.
- Install appliances in new builds.
- Deliver materials on an as-needed basis with a truck or truck and trailer.
- Drywall checkout.
- Direct Labourers and participate in construction site housekeeping duties as needed.
- General maintenance on existing properties as needed.
- Coordinate with subcontractors, under the supervision of the Construction Lead or Site Superintendent, to resolve construction issues on site.
- Attend safety meetings and worksite inspections when required.
- Stay updated on annual safety reporting and how OHS legislation impacts the organization.
- Participate in investigations as required.
- Report site investigations, incidents, injuries, near misses, and dangerous occurrences when required.
- Comply with Avana Policies and Procedures as well as OH&S Regulations.
- Promote a culture of safety and compliance and lead by example.
- Ensure employee and leadership accountability for their responsibilities to the Safety Program.
- Other duties as directed by the Construction Lead or Site Superintendent.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Minimum of three (3) years of proven experience in the field.
- Preference for working in a fast-paced environment with a strong commitment to excellence.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to safely perform physically demanding work, including lifting up to 50 lbs and working outdoors in all weather conditions throughout the year.
- Must provide own basic hand tools and CSA-approved steel-toed boots.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence with a satisfactory driver’s abstract.
- Satisfactory criminal record check required upon hire.
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
